A Bittersweet Season | Skagit County Family Photographer

Family of five smiling together during a sunset portrait session by the waterfront in Skagit County, Washington.

I’ve had the privilege of photographing this sweet family for the past six years, and it’s been one of the greatest joys to watch their story unfold through my lens. From giggling kids who could barely sit still to confident young adults standing on the edge of their next adventure, every session has marked another beautiful chapter in their lives.

This year’s session feels especially meaningful.

They’re soaking up every moment before their oldest heads off to college. As a parent, there’s something incredibly bittersweet about this season. You spend years raising your children to become independent, capable adults, and then one day you realize the ordinary moments you’ve shared—the family dinners, movie nights, inside jokes, and weekend adventures—are about to become memories you’ll treasure forever.

That’s why I believe family photos are about so much more than smiling at the camera.

They’re about preserving a season that will never come again.

Six years from now, they’ll look back at these images and remember what life felt like right before everything changed. They’ll remember the hugs that lasted a little longer, the laughter that came so easily, and the love that filled every frame.

To this wonderful family—thank you for trusting me with your memories. It has truly been an honor to document your story. I can’t wait to see where this next chapter takes you, and I hope these photographs always remind you of this beautiful season before the nest began to empty.

Time moves quickly, but photographs have a way of helping us hold onto the moments that matter most.
