Oak Harbor, WA Family Photos | September Beach Session
This family session took place on a beautiful September evening in Oak Harbor, Washington, and it couldn’t have been a better night for photos. The sunset was soft and golden, and the beach was calm.
September is one of my favorite months for family photos in Oak Harbor. The weather is still mild, the beaches are quieter, and the sunsets are consistently beautiful. This evening gave us warm tones, gentle waves, and a relaxed atmosphere that made the session feel easy and natural.
The kids were happy and playful the entire time. We spent most of the session walking along the shoreline, letting them explore, laugh, and just be themselves. Some of the best moments came from those in-between interactions—running near the water, cuddling close with mom and dad, and soaking in the last light of the day.
(That said, it’s important to know that not every family session looks like this the entire time—and that’s completely normal. Kids get tired, overwhelmed, hungry, or simply need a break. Meltdowns happen, and they are nothing to fear. I plan for them, work around them, and give space when needed. Some of the most meaningful images often come after a pause, a snack, or a quiet moment with a parent.)
Neutral, earthy outfits paired perfectly with the coastal setting and fall light, keeping everything timeless and cohesive without feeling overdone. The result was a mix of candid moments and lightly guided poses that truly reflect this season of their family’s life.
Oak Harbor is such a beautiful location for family photos, especially at sunset. This session was a great reminder of how simple moments, good light, and genuine connection come together to create meaningful images.
If you’re considering family photos in Oak Harbor or on Whidbey Island, early fall is an ideal time to schedule a session.
